Young Amautas- Volunteer position

The Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC) invites you to be one of our volunteers or facilitators of the third youth summer program: “Young Amautas of the Americas”. CERLAC is a York University-based hub for inter- and multidisciplinary research on Latin America and the Caribbean, their diasporas, and their relations with Canada and the rest of the world.
Young Amautas of the Americas, CERLAC’s youth summer program will guide thirty (30) students between 14-18 years of age through an interdisciplinary educational process. Students will participate in daily activities including art, dance, indigenous language, sports, music, trips, and workshops.
The program will run from July 17th – 21st, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. It will be held at CERLAC, York University (Keele Campus). Meals (breakfast and lunch) as well as public transportation tickets will be provided. The application deadline is Friday, June 16, 2017.

We consider individuals who are:

• Passionate and dedicated to serving their community
• Maintain a positive, fun and safe summer program environment for the youth
• Be able to participate the entire week of CERLAC’s youth summer program

Benefits of becoming a Young Amautas Volunteer:

• Recognition of volunteer and facilitator at the closing ceremony, and will receive a certificate (only for the ones who are fully committed to the entire program)
• Develop your resume and gain future references
• Improve leadership and group management skills

Time Commitment:
Hours: 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Days: Monday to Friday from July 17th–21st, 2017

Qualifications:

• Possess excellent interpersonal, time management, and communication skills
• Friendly and caring attitude and work collaboratively with a team
• Previous volunteer experience is an asset
• Knowledge of Spanish is an asset

Facilitator (2 positions available)

• Provide leadership and participate in summer program workshops and activities, sharing enthusiasm for each activity
• Committing to and upholding all Young Amautas Summer Program rules
• Photocopy and/or obtain supplies for instructor
• Write a report for each day activities
• Survey students at the end of the day

Group leader (3 positions available)

• Committing to and upholding all Young Amautas Summer Program rules
• Encouraging respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
• Provide tickets for student’s meals (Breakfast and lunch)
• Ensure students have their TTC tokens
• Keep in touch with student parents
• Monitor assistance of students
• Escort Students around the campus when needed
• Secure safe trips of the students to museums
• Other volunteer duties as assigned
